Do you have a strategic mindset and proven experience in global logistics sourcing?

We are looking for a skilled and driven Logistics Global Category Manager to lead the development and execution of global sourcing strategies for Road and Courier logistics services.

In this key position, you will ensure the availability of cost-efficient, high-quality, and sustainable logistics solutions that support our global supply chain operations. You will work in close collaboration with internal stakeholders and external partners to drive continuous improvement, cost optimization, and operational excellence.

Areas of Responsibility

We are looking for a strategic professional to develop and execute category strategies in collaboration with Logistics, Material Management, and Business Area (BA) stakeholders. The role supports business objectives and growth targets, with a strong focus on Cost Competitive Countries Sourcing (CCC).

You will translate high-level plans into actionable roadmaps and lead execution. Responsibilities include supplier and industry benchmarking, analyzing logistics market trends (e.g. fuel prices, capacity issues, regulatory changes), and sharing cost development data, risks, and forecasts with BA and Group Sourcing (GS) stakeholders.

The role involves identifying, evaluating, and managing global logistics service providers, as well as leading supplier negotiations, contract development, and performance management. You will also manage supplier relationships, foster strategic partnerships, and drive continuous improvements.

Cost-saving opportunities are identified and delivered through strategic sourcing and process improvements. You ensure the quality of Category Management master data across systems to support accurate reporting and KPI development. Monitoring of category spend, savings, and compliance is part of your responsibility, along with close cooperation with supply chain, operations, finance, and regional procurement.

You will lead a matrixed category team with members from various business units and areas. The role also supports logistics planning and execution, ensures compliance with trade regulations, customs requirements, and corporate policies, and mitigates risks tied to logistics disruptions, geopolitics, and sustainability.

Driving logistics innovation through digital tools and automation is expected, as is promoting sustainable practices aligned with ESG goals.

As global approver of new suppliers in your category via Compass, you will develop, implement, and follow up on global category strategy, aligned with Valmet’s logistics strategy and business needs. You will also benchmark and tender suppliers using the RFx process at optimal intervals to achieve savings, added value, and improved performance.

Internal stakeholders: Business Area Logistics, Finance, IT, Organizational Development (OD), Supply Chain, Procurement, Sustainability team

External stakeholders: Logistics Service providers, IT service providers

Expectations

  • The position requires a good understanding of logistics operations, applications, analytical mindset, and ability to communicate with all different teams and stakeholders globally within logistics and cross-organizational stakeholders.
  • Suitable educational background (e.g., BSc/MSc) with a minimum of 5 years’ relevant logistics category work experience in a global or regional scope. /Solid Knowledge on logistics operational processes, tools, and applications / Experience with analysis, ERP systems, and reporting is considered a plus
  • Experience in project business and / or relevant industry is a strong asset.
  • Enjoy taking your own initiative and working both individually and collaboratively in a matrix organization
  • Pragmatic and business minded problem-solving and multitasking aptitude
  • Keen interest in following industry trends and best practices and ability to challenge current way of working
  • Fluent written and oral communication skills in English. Other European languages, such as Finnish and Swedish, are considered an asset.
