System Architect – Senior Expert in Functional Safety
We are looking for an experienced professional in Functional Safety to strengthen our team.
The ideal candidate has 8+ years of hands-on experience in functional safety (ISO 26262 or comparable standards).
About the Role
As a Senior Functional Safety Leader, you will be part of a central competence center and contribute to both process and product development.
This includes all levels of the development cycle – from strategic planning, supplier selection, and reviewing Functional Safety Statements of Work, to concept design and guiding projects through to production launch.
You will collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical engineering, mechatronics, customers, suppliers, and technical partners.
The role involves detailed work in safety design, requirement reviews, FSC and TSC activities at system, software, and hardware levels, ensuring refinement and traceability of safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and maintain functional safety instructions, guidelines, and templates
- Provide functional safety training for activities such as impact analysis, HARA, and safety analysis of software and hardware
- Plan and track safety test activities (safety plans) based on project scope
- Drive the development of functional and technical safety concepts across function, system, subsystem, software, and hardware levels
- Lead functional safety engineering activities for product development teams and contribute to technical work products
- Perform impact analyses and recommend safety criteria for system design and processes
- Develop technical safety work products (e.g., item definitions, criticality analyses, coverage analyses)
- Support the implementation of safety requirements across all parts of system design
- Define verification and validation strategies (HARA, FTA, FMEA, FSC, TSC) for ASIL-classified systems
- Integrate functional safety standards and best practices into corporate processes (ISO 26262)
- Ensure technical documentation and revisions are prepared, stored, and released on time
- Coordinate and align safety-related topics with suppliers and customers
Required Qualifications
- M.Sc. or B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or Mechatronics
- Strong expertise in functional safety activities and ISO 26262 compliance
- Documented experience with:
- Safety analyses at HW and SW levels (FMEA, FTA, DFA, freedom from interference)
- Hardware-software interface specification (HSI)
- SW/HW architecture, schematics, BOM lists, HW metrics (ASIL C/D)
- Functional and technical safety concepts in ASIL-B or higher domains
- Excellent communication skills in English (C2 level) – spoken and written
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire, develop, and motivate teams
- Familiarity with agile methods and a broad technical background
