The Role

We’re looking for a Senior Software Developer who is an expert in backend engineering and interested in the bleeding edge of digital health. Your primary challenge is to transform our MVP health assistant into a robust, scalable server application. If this goes well, we want to explore a long-term position where you would shape our technical direction and engineering culture.

Key Responsibilities

• Application Development & Deployment: Architect, develop, and deploy our server application, transforming the current MVP into a production-ready service.
• Strategic Technical Input:
• Database Strategy: Evaluate and define our data storage solutions. You'll decide when to use relational databases like PostgreSQL, NoSQL databases like MongoDB, or even graph database structures for complex data interactions.
• DevOps Tooling: Contribute to our CI/CD strategy by selecting and optimizing tools (e.g., GitHub Actions, CircleCI, or Jenkins) for seamless code integration, testing, and deployment.
• Monitoring & Observability: Shape our approach to system reliability by helping choose and implement modern monitoring, logging, and observability solutions (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, and centralized logging systems).
• API Integration: Seamlessly integrate with external APIs (Twilio, OpenAI, Anthropic) to extend product capabilities.
• Collaboration & Culture: Work closely with the team to drive engineering best practices, agile development processes, and ensure a culture that values continuous improvement.

What We’re Looking For

Must-Have Skills:

• You are a self-starter and thrive under constrained resources.
• Proven expertise in backend development, particularly in architecting robust server applications.
• Experience integrating third-party APIs, with a focus on platforms like Twilio and OpenAI/Anthropic.
• Hands-on exposure to cloud environments, containerization with Docker, and both server-based and serverless architectures.
• Solid experience in database design—capable of evaluating and selecting between relational (PostgreSQL), NoSQL (MongoDB), and, when necessary, graph database strategies.
• Familiarity with DevOps principles, especially in designing and maintaining continuous integration and deployment pipelines.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

• Experience with graph database structures for advanced data modeling.
• Familiarity with LLM fine-tuning and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) methodologies.
• Experience with system monitoring and observability practices, ensuring our applications meet high reliability and performance standards.
• Willing to provide input around product management and design when needed.
