At Hystar, we believe the full potential of renewables can only be realized by large-scale energy storage and use of hydrogen in heavy-duty transportation and industry. Based on a new and unique patented PEM electrolyser concept, Hystar is currently developing our next-generation PEM electrolyser to accelerate the deployment of large-scale green hydrogen production. Hystar is an innovative, fast growing, high-tech company, based at Høvik, just outside Oslo, Norway. Job description

As an Engineering Manager will lead a multidisciplinary engineering team and oversee the design, development, and delivery of containerized PEM electrolysers. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in mechanical, process, or electrical engineering, combined with leadership experience in managing engineering teams and projects.

Duties and responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of engineers across mechanical, process, and electrical disciplines.
• Develop and implement engineering strategies to drive innovation, efficiency, and product scalability.
• Oversee the entire engineering lifecycle, from concept to production, ensuring project timelines and budgets are met.
• Collaborate with R&D, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to optimize design for manufacturability.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
• Act as a key technical advisor in product development and decision-making.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the engineering team.

Qualifications and requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Process).
• 10+ years of experience in engineering roles, with at least 5 years in a leadership position.
• Proven track record of managing multidisciplinary engineering teams (10-15 people).
• Strong project management skills, with experience in agile and stage-gate methodologies.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and develop engineering talent.
