What we eat shapes not only our health, but also the future of our planet. We are looking for a Doctor in precision nutrition to join our interdisciplinary nutrition research team at Chalmers. In this role, you will help advance innovative dietary strategies that support both individual well-being and sustainable food consumption.
About us
The Department of Life Sciences is aiming at bridging cutting edge life science research with biochemical engineering, in order to emerge as the leading innovation center in the region. The research has broad applications in areas of health and industrial production of e.g. fine chemicals, food and energy. The department offers highly qualified education for engineering students within the area of bioengineering. It is furthermore collaborating in broad, interdiciplinary national and international networks within academia and the industry.
The Division of Food and Nutrition Science is one of four research divisions at the Department of Life Sciences. Food and Nutrition Science is one of the leading units in the area in Sweden with particular strengths in nutritional and computational metabolomics, dietary biomarkers, micronutrient metal nutrition, nutritional immunology, marine food science, plant based foods, food biotechnology and nutrition as well as food by-product biorefining and protein technology.
The division has a wide range of modern analytical equipment for chromatography coupled with mass spectrometery, an in vitro human cell laboratory, and a microbiology laboratory. The division focuses on nutritional solutions for health and disease prevention by studies on the molecular, cellular, and whole-body level. It also has a strong focus on sustainable use of food raw materials and on many different quality aspects of food.
About the research project
Diet plays an important role for health and well-being. At a population level, there is an overall consensus what represents a healthy diet, but individividuals responds differently to the same foods and it is challenging for individuals to make lifestyle and dietary changes. We have several ongoing projects where we evaluate the personalized response to foods and dietary patterns and where we investigate different strategies to facilitate changes towards a more healthy and sustianble diets for the individual.
Job description
As a Doctor in precision nutrition in our team, you will get the chance to lead our ongoing activities in a large EU project (SWITCH) where we evalute developed strategies for healthy and sustainble food consumption with regards to health and environmental sustainability. The study is conducted in collaboration with RISE, 21 European partners and the Life Style Intervention Centre at Östra Hospital in Gothenburg. The project is also supported by the Västra Götalands Region with additional activities.
You will also be responsible for an industrial sponsored trial where we evlaute the effects of bread quality for effects on appetite, food intake and metabolism in close collaboration with our team at the Wallenberg laboratory, Sahlgrenska Academy.
In this role you will:
• Manage Chalmers participation in the EU project SWITCH
• Assist in the ongoing SWITCH-intervention
• Coordinate and manage a dietary intervention study to evaluate bread quality effects on appetite, food intake and metabolism. This includes leading the dietary intervention team at the Wallenberg Laboratory (nurses, dietitians, laboratory assistants, involved studetns and postdocs), collect and manage data, present results in scientific publications and at conferences.
Who we are looking for
The following requirements are mandatory for the role:
• To qualify for the position, you must hold a doctoral degree in nutrition, medicine or dietetics or a closely related field.
• You need to be fluent in a Scandinavian langugage to manage study participant interactions.
• You must have experience from dietary intervention studies, data analysis and presentation of scientific data both in scientific papers and conferences.
The following experience will strengthen your application:
It is meritorious if you have expereince from reseach on health effects of carbohydrate quality, portfolio diets in cardimoetabolic disease.
Contract terms
The position is a temporary full-time employment for a maximum of 360 days.
