Arbetsbeskrivning

Advance Earth Observation with passive radar and 6G networks! Join our cutting-edge research at the intersection of radar, signal processing and satellite communication. As a Doctoral student, you'll help develop innovative remote sensing capabilities and be part of a dynamic, international team shaping the future of Earth Observation! About us  The Department of Space, Earth and Environment brings together expertise in space, geoscience, energy and sustainability. Through curiosity-driven research, education and collaboration, we explore the Universe, the Earth and the complex systems linking environment, energy and society – enabling knowledge-based solutions for a sustainable future.  At the Division of Geoscience and Remote Sensing, we conduct research, education, and utilization within a wide range of scientific and engineering disciplines, using ground-based, airborne and satellite measurements, and numerical modeling.  About the research project  We are looking for a Doctoral student to participate in the development of passive radar capabilities in future 6G networks. These communication systems will integrate terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks where communication signals are linked via satellites. A portion of the communication signal is reflected from the Earth's surface and can be received and used for passive radar observations. This position is a unique opportunity to work at the crossroads of radar, signal processing, communication and Earth observation with a multidisciplinary team of international experts. Who we are looking for The following requirements are mandatory: • To qualify as a Doctoral student, you must have a Master's degree (masterexamen) of 120 credits or a Master’s degree (magisterexamen) of 60 credits* in electrical engineering, engineering physics, or related disciplines. • You will need strong written and verbal communication skills in English • Good skills in programming (e.g. Matlab, Python, C/C++)  *for students with an education earned outside of Sweden, a 4-year Bachelor’s degree is accepted.  The following experience will strengthen your application:  • Practical experience with radars, embedded systems, remote sensing data or integrated sensing and communication (ISAC).  • Completed courses in signal processing, radar or communication systems. • Communication skills in Swedish are valuable, but not required. What you will do • Develop radar signal processing and algorithms for retrieval of geophysical information • Analyse waveforms and system performance • Field tests and data collections • Take courses at an advanced level within the Graduate school of Radio and space science  • Develop your own scientific concepts and communicate the results of your research verbally and in writing  • The position generally also includes teaching on Chalmers' undergraduate level or performing other duties corresponding to 20 percent of working hours Contract terms   • The Doctoral student positions are fully funded from start.  • The position is a fixed-term appointment of four years, with the possibility to teach up to 20%, which extends the position up to five years.  • A starting salary of 34,550 SEK per month.  • Doctoral studies require physical presence throughout the entire study period.
