Arbetsbeskrivning
We are seeking a highly motivated researcher to join our team and take a central role in testing, characterizing, and scaling up next-generation AEMWE components.
While the synthesis of catalysts will be performed by other consortium partners, you will be responsible for:
- Integrating the catalysts into MEAs
- Electrochemical evaluation of MEAs and single cells
- Characterizing electrode structure and interfaces
- Supporting scale-up efforts for roll-to-roll coating processes
- Assisting with technical reporting, data management, and coordination within the international project consortium
This is a hands-on role that combines electrochemical expertise with cross-functional project involvement, ideal for someone interested in applied research with industrial relevance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead electrochemical testing of novel MEAs using catalyst-coated membranes developed by project partners
- Perform short-term performance and long-term durability evaluations in single cells (CV, EIS, U–I curves)
- Characterize MEAs and interfaces using SEM, EDS, XPS, and cross-sectional imaging
- Support ink formulation and hot-press parameter optimization for upscaling MEAs
- Coordinate with ALD catalyst developers to guide design iterations based on test results
- Contribute to deliverables and milestone tracking as part of the EU project
- Participate in consortium meetings, reporting, and dissemination activities (e.g., publications, conferences)
Qualifications
- PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related discipline
- Strong background in electrochemistry and MEA testing, preferably in fuel cell or electrolysis applications
- Familiarity with catalyst characterization techniques (even if not directly performing synthesis)
- Experience in international or EU-funded research projects is highly desirable
- Proven publication record in peer-reviewed journals
- Excellent communication skills in English and ability to manage multi-partner collaborations
What We Offer
- A unique opportunity to contribute to the green hydrogen transition through cutting-edge AEM technology
- Collaboration with top-tier academic and industrial partners across Europe
- Involvement in a well-structured EU project with high visibility and impact
- A dynamic, agile working environment in a growing deep-tech startup
- Competitive compensation based on experience
About Hydroyal AB
Hydroyal AB is a Swedish deep-tech startup at the forefront of green hydrogen technologies.
We specialize in the development and scalable production of membrane-electrode-assemblies (MEAs) for Anion Exchange Membrane Water Electrolysis (AEMWE), enabling efficient and cost-effective hydrogen generation without reliance on scarce precious metals.
We are coordinating an EU-funded project, a collaborative effort with academic and industrial partners to advance ALD-based thin film catalysts and novel MEA fabrication methods, ultimately validated in a short stack.
