Are you passionate about using data and AI to improve human health? Join us in tackling one of the biggest global health challenges of our time – antibiotic resistance. We are offering a three-year postdoctoral position in data analysis, where you will apply machine learning techniques to understand how resistance genes spread and to help detect infections caused by resistant bacteria. The position is part of a collaborative research project at the intersection of technology and medicine, with the possibility of extending the role for an additional year. About us The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg has about 200 employees and is the largest department of mathematics in Sweden. The department has three scientific divisions: Algebra and Geometry, Analysis and Probability Theory, and Applied Mathematics and Statistics, and conducts successful research in pure and applied mathematics and mathematical statistics in a wide range of research areas. About the research project The position is interdisciplinary and combines bioinformatics and data science with applications in medicine.  The research will be done the research group of Erik Kristiansson and in close collaboration with international scientists from different disciplines. This will include SENSIF, a research project funded by the Joint Programming Initative on Antimicrobial Resistance (JPI-AMR). The major responsibility as a postdoc is to perform research within the scope of the project. You are expected to work independently, develop your own scientific concepts, write scientific manuscripts, and to share your research results with collaborators and at international conferences. A postdoc position can also include teaching and supervision of Bachelor and Master students. You will also expected to be part of the CARe – the Centre for Antibiotic Resistance Research in Gothenburg, an interdisciplinary excellence center connecting multiple universities and hospitals in the region. We seek candidates with the following qualifications: • The candidate for this position must have obtained a PhD degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, bioinformatics, or equivalent. • The candidate should have previous experience in bacterial genomics, machine learning/artificial intelligence, preferably with applications in the infectious diseases and the transmission of antibiotic resistance genes. • Strong programming skills in Python or equivalent programming languages is a requirement. • Since the position is within an interdisciplinary research project, an interest in collaborative research is important. The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. Swedish is not a requirement but Chalmers offers Swedish courses. To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must hold a doctoral degree awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline.  * The date shown in your doctoral degree certificate is the date we use, as this is the date you have met all requirements for the doctoral degree. Exceptions from the 3-year limit can be made for longer periods resulting from parental leave, sick leave or military service.
