Subject Area
The subject covers applied aesthetics with relevance for landscape architecture in regards to spatially related landscape research and applied artistic practices. Systematic advances and articulations of these, of importance for issues connected to the design of space, place, objects, practices, techniques, methods and processes.
Duties
The senior lecturer will be responsible for duties related to the subject. In addition, education and artistic research, carried out by the senior lecturer, is expected to be achieved in collaboration with colleagues at the department and at SLU overall, as well as within national and international contexts.
Within the subject area the senior lecturer is expected to establish and advance the topic through:
• contribute to the scientific development in collaboration with the head of subject
• establish competitive artistic research in the subject of applied aesthetics that complements and strengthens the department's ongoing research and is in line with the faculty's and the university's strategic goals
• apply for external research funding in competition
• publish scientific articles and participate in exhibitions
• develop, lead and conduct teaching in applied aesthetics at basic level, advanced level and postgraduate level, in particular BSc in Horticultural Management - Garden Design and Professional program in landscape architecture
• supervise students at all levels of the education cycle
• develop and maintain national and international networks for artistic pedagogy and research
• communicate about artistic research and research results and contribute knowledge to society
The department has a parallel language work environment. As the university is Swedish-speaking, the holder is expected to be able to work and teach in Swedish within four years of taking up the position. The institution will support the holder to achieve this. In addition, the holder is expected to participate in courses taught in Swedish from the moment of taking up the position. However, the applicant is expected to participate in courses that are mainly conducted in Swedish from the moment of admission.
Qualifications
Within the subject of the employment the applicant shall:
• have completed a doctoral degree within artistic practice, design, other relevant subject related to applied aesthetics, or have equivalent scientific competence
• be scientifically skilled within artistic research
• have demonstrated the ability to obtain external research grants
• have published artistic research results in high quality international journals, relevant for the subject
• have participated in highly recognized exhibitions or been commissioned for public art works
• have documented pedagogical skill in teaching in the field of applied aesthetics, including the supervision of students at basic level and advanced level
• have completed university pedagogical education or otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge
• have documented skills and broad practical experience in the craft and methods of applied aesthetics
• have good knowledge of English
Assessment criteria
The assessment criteria for employment shall primarily apply to the degree of such skill which is a requirement for eligibility for employment.
The assessment of research expertise will take into account the following:
• completed artistic research efforts and ongoing artistic research
• the ability to independently initiate and conduct outstanding and innovative artistic research
• external research funds awarded in competition
• completed exhibitions and public art commissions carried out in prestigious contexts
The assessment of teaching expertise will take into account the following:
• planning, implementation, examination and evaluation of own teaching
• supervision and examination at all levels of the education cycle
• the ability to integrate artistic practice and research into the pedagogical work
• pedagogical vision that clearly demonstrates the role of action oriented teaching an and the importance of creativity in building spatial knowledge
Furthermore expertise in the following will be taken into account:
• communication and collaboration with external stakeholders and the surrounding community
• ability to create, participate in or maintain national and international networks for artistic pedagogy and research
• the ability to foster curiosity and commitment of students and colleagues
Good knowledge of Swedish or other Scandinavian language is a merit.
When assessing the candidate’s qualifications, equal attention will be given to teaching and research expertise respectively.
The position will be offered to the candidate who, after a qualitative overall assessment, is assessed to have the best qualifications to carry out and develop current tasks and contribute to a positive development of the department and SLU.
