Arbetsbeskrivning

Context: The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), situated in Grenoble, France, is Europe's leading research facility for scientific research using neutrons. Every year, we host over 2000 visits by scientists, who come to the Institute to carry out world-class research. The Computing for Science (CS) Group develops and maintains software tools for processing experimental data, including MANTID, in collaboration with international neutron facilities. It also leads data analysis efforts through advanced atomistic simulations. These activities are centralized on the C-Lab platform, integrating molecular dynamics and ab-initio methods. Simulations are run on a high-performance computing (HPC) cluster. Your tasks: As part of ILL's strategic Digital Twin (DT) project, you will contribute to the development of a simulation tool that digitally replicates raw data from all ILL instruments. This role involves integrating technologies such as Nomad, C-Lab, and McStas to support experiments across their entire lifecycle, from proposal to analysis. You will work within a multidisciplinary team of scientists and developers in a cross-functional initiative, helping enhance data processing, experiment planning, and real-time support through advanced numerical modeling. You will: - be responsible for expanding the collection of numerical versions of the instruments called Digital Twin - participate in the development and maintenance of the MANTID data reduction software, in particular for the automatic reduction modules. - participate in the creation of the integrated platform for data analysis, proposing a large panel of data analysis software to the user community. Your profile: - PhD in physics with strong experience in computing science and neutron scattering - Solid experience in Python or C++ (Fortran a plus) and good software development practices (e.g. versioning with Git) - Solid understanding of neutron scattering processes - Solid experience with Monte Carlo ray tracing packages (McStas) - You must have a sound knowledge of English and be willing to learn French (a language course will be paid for by the ILL) Further information can be obtained by contacting Stéphane ROLS, Head of the Scientific Computing Group: +33 (0)4.76.20.78.25 or [email protected] Please do not send your application to this address. What we offer: Quality of life: This position is based in Grenoble, a hub for research and technology, ideally located in the heart of the French Alps (just 3 hours from Paris/Provence by train, 1 hour from Lyon international airport and 1 ½ hours from Geneva). It is important for us that our staff achieve a healthy work-life balance. We therefore offer home working (under certain conditions), generous annual paid leave entitlement and a host of other benefits that you will discover when you arrive! Prospects: We guarantee you a stable permanent contract in a multicultural scientific environment. Benefits: We offer generous social benefits (expatriation allowance, excellent health cover), moving and relocation assistance (under certain conditions) and an annual productivity bonus. We also offer language courses for you and your partner and subsidies for the use of public transport and the staff canteen, as well as for holidays and a variety of cultural and sports activities.
