Core mission
The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL) is an international centre for scientific research situated in Grenoble, France. It is Europe's leading neutron science facility. Every year, the ILL hosts over 2000 visits by scientists, who come to carry out world-class research in a wide variety of scientific fields. As a member of the team responsible for the equipment used to subject samples to extreme conditions, you will participate in the development of new devices for applying very high pressure at cryogenic temperatures.
Your tasks
Working within the ILL's Services for Advanced Neutron Environments (SANE), you will:
. Join a dynamic team specialising in extreme environments for neutron science
. Propose, design and simulate (using finite element analysis) technical solutions based on materials with optimised characteristics
. Contribute to the development of in-situ pressure measurement using fluorescence in a cryostat or dilution insert.
. Participate in the assembly, qualification and use of the equipment with neutron beams.
Your profile
. Master's degree (or equivalent) in applied physics and engineering with some initial experience in instrumentation
. You are interested in materials science, optics and cryogenics
. You are keen to develop skills in a wide range of specialist areas
. A sound level of English is required (written and spoken)
. Knowledge of French would be appreciated, or you must be willing to learn French (a language course will be paid for by the ILL).
