Core mission:
The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), situated in Grenoble, France, is Europe's leading research facility for fundamental research using neutrons. The ILL operates the brightest neutron source in the world and hosts over 2000 visits by scientists per year, who come to carry out world-class research.
Come and join the "Fluids" team within the Mechanical Engineering Service of the ILL's Reactor Division. We are looking for 2 mechanical maintenance technicians: you will work in direct collaboration with the other technicians within the group, and in particular, you will be responsible for the maintenance, operation and in-service monitoring of the reactor's light water installations and two radioactive liquid effluent discharge stations.
Your tasks:
Your main role will be to operate, maintain and repair this equipment:
- Preparing the documentation required for maintenance operations: drafting work procedures and work authorisations
- Preparing and setting up work sites: selecting appropriate equipment configurations, preparing the work areas in conjunction with the Health Physics, Safety and Environment Service and performing maintenance operations
- Drafting, where necessary, a maintenance report and filling out the logs for equipment under maintenance
- Performing statutory periodic tests and inspections
- Drafting technical specifications for subcontracted maintenance operations
- Monitoring work carried out by subcontractors
- Drafting technical documentation (procedures, instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), reports, etc.) in compliance with the ILL's Integrated Management System
- Assist on an occasional basis with the operation of other equipment under the group's responsibility.
Your profile:
- Level 4/5 qualification (NVQ, BTEC, HND or equivalent) in mechanical engineering, thermal engineering or maintenance, or similar
- Experience of maintaining pumping systems is desirable, as well as the ability to perform simple fluid mechanics calculations
- Prior experience of working within a quality assurance framework, if possible in the nuclear sector, would be a particular advantage
- This position requires excellent analytical and writing skills, notable for drafting procedures, technical specifications and reports
- Sound knowledge of vacuum techniques (in particular helium leak testing) is also required.
